  • WELCOME!

    Hi there!

    Thanks for stopping by. I'm guessing you're here because you like my pretty pictures {thanks!}, but maybe you're also a little bit curious about the girl behind the lens. Well then. Here goes. I'm a sarcastic, free-spirited mama of two who loves coffee, 5Ks and the occassional dirty martini. I'm a loud laugher, nervous hair twirler, chapstick obsessed t-shirt and jeans wearer.

    Still got questions? Or just wanna say "Hi"? Then click CONTACT {up there} to drop me a line. Who doesn't love mail? :)

and it was all yellow | milwaukee wisconsin north shore family photographer

There are some sessions where you get this insanely delicious yellow golden light… and this was one of those sessions. Although it was much colder than we expected (hello, it was almost MAY!), this 6-month-old dude totally rocked it, smiling the entire time. I had to laugh when as we all chatted as we walked back to our cars and Adrian’s dad asked, “Have you ever had a kid that just whined and cried the entire time?” I honestly thought about it, but the answer still was “Nope!” Hmm, I may have just jinxed myself. Ha!

Anyway, on to the photographs. Take a look and just try to tell me you don’t get the warm fuzzies looking at the light in these images. I’m obsessed. I’m also obsessed with the images of Adrian with his mama. I mean, I think every mom would agree we’d love more shots like these of our own, am I right?

There’s something odd that happens when you become a parent: Everything becomes pure denial. About your age, about how much time you have to do the 30 projects you pinned on Pinterest, and of course, about your babies’ birthdays. It never fails – every single year I say, “No WAY has it been another year!” And this year, I think I said it about 150 times.

This year, as Gavin’s birthday quickly approached and Ryan was already telling people he was 2, I constantly corrected him. “He is NOT 2 yet!” I remember being a bit like this with Avery’s birthdays too, but with Gavin I get even more serious about it. Because, well, he’s our last baby. So every little moment of him NOT being 2 yet needed to be fully appreciated and fully soaked up.

It hasn’t been easy though. My little man is all Kelly Clarkson independent. Seriously. Anything physical, he is all over it. Rock walls? Check. Opening and closing doors? Check. Destroying property? I will refrain from calling out the birthday boy, but if you have a 2-year-old boy… you know the answer. He’s also not shy about letting you know what he wants. The past two nights when I asked what he wants for dinner? “Pa chart. WANT IT.” (Pop Tart. I want it.) Say wha? And changing his diaper? “Noooooo! Don’t want it!” LOL.

But there are still little glimpses left of my snuggly baby. Things that I never want to forget…

Like when he hugs, he hugs with his arms AND his legs and says, “Aww, hi mama!”

Or when it’s bedtime and we put on Blue’s Clues (his fave, along with Chuggington) and he sits down with his blankie, his puppy and his na na, and then pats his hand on the spot next to him for me to come sit down. And then snuggles against my chest.

Or when we’re riding in the car and he, out of nowhere, says, “I happy.” Sigh… I love this kid. Even though when he talks, he sounds an awful lot like Borat.;)And when he laughs… Oh my. I dare you to keep a straight face when you hear him. He has the deepest, rolling laugh I’ve ever heard. And it’s so hilarious coming out of a 2-year-old.

His obsessions at 2 years old? Puppies, babies, choo choos, tubbies (baths), Mo Mo (Elmo), boons (balloons), balls/basketball/soccer/golf/football, yogurt, cheese, and crackers (and ALWAYS requesting to eat them out of a bowl – with a ‘poon). Hates? Brushing his teeth and changing his diaper. ;)

I still can’t believe it’s been a year since this, and 2 years since his crazy entry into the world (they took him three weeks early due to my pre-eclampsia and I was stuck in the hospital for 8 days), but I almost don’t remember any of that. I just remember him being the most relaxed and happy little baby who made the funniest little animal sounds that got him the nickname “Little Critter.” His nickname now? Bubba. My, how things change in two short years.

Happy birthday, little man! We love you so much. But PLEASE, stop growing up!

This past weekend in Wisconsin was still technically winter, but you’d never have guessed with the almost-80 degree weather we had. It’s been crazy! But awesome crazy. This park is one of my absolute favorites – it has the most AMAZING view of the lake off a huge bluff and has the most incredible tall, golden grass. The perfect spot to capture some family-of-almost-five portraits. Although, Miss Kate may have stolen the show with her hilarious stories and silly faces. And George. Oh, George. You kinda melted me into a pile of goo.:)

H family, thanks for trudging through some pretty soggy areas. And M, you might just get the Husband of the Year award for swooping into action when Kate said she had to find a potty. {There may have been a tiny naked bum and a frantic search for Kleenex in the middle of a field…} And that my friends? Is why I love my clients. So unfazed and totally go-with-the-flow. Ha!
Congrats you guys! Can’t wait to meet the little man in May!

When I got word that the very first {SEP} baby of 2012 had FINALLY arrived, I was SO excited! Not only had Troy and Kerry decided to be surprised at the birth, but baby was runnin’ a bit late! So I finally got to visit their beautiful baby girl this past weekend, and ohmygosh was she SO sweet.

Let me just say, I know it’s kind of silly, but I still get butterflies before every session. The excitement of meeting new people, the humbling feeling of being welcomed into their personal space and their lives, documenting that special time… That moment where I’m walking up to a family’s door, I feel like I might explode lol.

So when Troy and their little man opened the door, I knew this was gonna be good stuff.;)

“Hi! I’m Eliott!”

And then I promptly melted into a pile of goo.:)Seriously, the most adorable almost-3-year-old. And SO in love with his baby sister. {He kept asking me “What are you doing with my baby?” and then proceeded to be my “assistant” the entire rest of the shoot – he had the very important job of holding my lens cap and schlepping blankets when necessary. Of course, that was all after he gave me a tour of the house lol! Too cute.}

Big brother and “his” baby.
Squishy cheeks!

Aaaaaand my favorite shot {Well, they all are kinda, but I just can’t resist her smooshy cheeks and how she looks like she’s thinking, “Geez you guys, being 9 days old is rough!”}
LOVED this session.

Thanks Troy and Kerry for being so laid back and for rolling with the poo-splosions {Kerry, you are FAST, girl!}. And Eliott, you can be my assistant anytime.:)

Sarah | Coffee and Cabernet - I came across your blog when I "googled" navy & gray nursery. Your posts about your nursery decorating trials & tribulations were hilarious and you hooked me as your latest follower!! (Your photography is marvelous, too.)
I'm planning a navy, gray & yellow nursery for my second son due in June. Let's hope it pans out.
Best!

best face photo from 2011 {i heart faces}

Back in April 2011, I got super busy with all the birthday madness in the household and totally forgot to post a photo of this major milestone: Gavin’s first haircut!

If you’re new to my blog, you’ll have to head back to some old posts and check out the Fabio-ness of Gavin’s former hair. It was dark, glossy, luxurious and loooong. Like, to the point of either needing to cut it or start sending him to daycare with a barrette. The hubs chose to cut it.;)

I guess a lot doesn’t change in a year… In Gavin’s world, as long as you’ve got food, he’s your pal. And therefore, the clippers proved victorious.
