Only the other “guy” was a girl. And really it was her car that you’d need to see.
You see, apparently every time I announce a pregnancy, all hell breaks loose. (Seriously, whoever has the voodoo doll, step away from the blog. Thanks.)
Thursday after work, my dad and I were driving home. We’re on the freeway in the stop and go traffic (as usual, only it was drizzling–the same drizzle we’d had for like 3 days straight) just yapping away. All of a sudden out of no where, BAM! I screamed and did the whole “girly hands over your head thing.” We were rear ended.
I’ve only been in one accident (thank God) and I saw it coming (some chick pulled out in front of me when we lived in Chicago). It was scary, but like I said, I saw it coming so I was a bit more prepared. Getting rear ended pretty much sucks. Especially when you’re stopped at 0 mph and the chick behind you plows in at probably 20-25 mph.
I immediately called 911 (who, by the way, took their sweet time answering). They asked if anyone was hurt. I told him my dad’s back hurt, and then like a lightbulb went off, I said, “Oh yeah, and I’m pregnant.” Crap.
Once the ambulance and cops arrived, I called my OB to see if she could fit me in and check to see if everything was ok. She wasn’t there. Great. I asked if anyone else could see me. They told me they closed at 5. It was 4:40. Finally, I threw out the miscarriage card saying this is the same time I miscarried last time and was already nervous. Add a freeway accident to the mix, and I was a psychotic pregnant chick. It worked. She said to get there as soon as possible and the doctor would be waiting.
Luckily, everything seemed ok. The baby had a strong heartbeat, was measuring a day ahead, and the doctor felt confident everything was fine. I’m still nervous, but I have another appointment Monday morning. If all is good then, I think I’ll be able to relax a bit.
Yikes. Seems like it’s time for me to start living in that bubble. Seriously, do they make a giant puffy hamster-like wheel for uber cautious pregnant chicks?? Cuz that’d be great.
Oh, and for those interested about the chick’s car? It was totaled and had to be towed from the scene. We were VERY lucky. And so in need of some VERY drama-free days.
